What: Kalamazoo Block Parties is a series of events that are designed to connect Community Police Officers with youth in the neighborhood.  The events last from 2 - 4 p.m., with the exception of the Halloween event on October 29 that will including an evening "monster" truck treating event.  The remaining event that needs volunteers is Thursday, August 25.

There are so many different opportunities to volunteer and the events are too many to list on this page. Here are just a few:  Skeletour (October 6-31), Shop Local Events (November and December), Santa's Workshop (December).  Volunteer shifts are event days and the opportunities are dependent on the event. But, primarily it is greeting people, directing participants, and delivering supplies.

This is the biggest single event in downtown Kalamazoo and it's a tradition.  Hosted the Saturday before Thanksgiving, this event needs volunteers to carry balloons, manage the staging areas, collect food donations, and distribute information. 

Where: Traditional parade route

When: November 19, 2023 shifts are about 3 hours and there are many different times and shifts to pick to volunteer.  The slots start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m.

KalamaTopia

What: KalamaTopia is a makers-mart outdoor cold-air shopping event that kicks off the holiday season. The event is supported with a beverage tent, DJ music (perfect in the dark), and fun games that people like to play outdoors. 

Where: 100 N. Kalamazoo Mall | Michigan Ave. to Water St.

When: Friday, November 4th from 5 - 8:00 p.m. (shifts start at 3 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.)

New Year's Fest

What: New Year’s Fest is an all-ages showcase of performing arts that takes place on New Year's Eve in Downtown Kalamazoo. There will be a ball drop & fireworks at midnight in Bronson Park. Volunteers are needed for button checking (get to see the shows and volunteer), site supervision, and band support.

2022 Event Date: Friday, December 31st from 5:30 - 12 a.m.

Where: Downtown Kalamazoo and Bronson Park - shifts are 3 hours and start at 3 p.m. and end at midnight.
